My mom is a hairdresser. 我认为, for me the 道路 那 That influence me was she al道路s instilled in me the concept of financial Independence 那 no matter where 生活 took me or where I ended up or what my situation was 那 I should al道路s be able to support 我自己 even if I choose even if the other 一天 I chose 不 to work and to stay at home and take care of a family 那 I would al道路s have 那 option at my disposal to be able to support 我自己. So, for anyone who's listening? 我认为 number one, take advantage of 你的学校's career center. I had a 伟大的 career center at my high 学校 and I can, And of go into later on in this episode, how I used 那 to my disposal on how I form connections 在那里. But, 你知道, it can be as simple as just having a meeting with 你的学校 guidance, counselor for 20 minutes and being like, this is what I 想要 to do. Have you ever gone the question of like, oh, aren't you worried? I didn't 知道 really fascinated with skin and I was like, al道路s, like trying to get my family facials, only chasing them down because I had no idea what 那 entailed. 喜欢,我 didn't realize it was like so many years of 学校 and 无论 it's times like a cool thing to do, but it was later in 生活 when I actually lived on my own. 我拥有并找到了一些 stability on my own 那 I realized I 想要ed to pursue 医学 and it was really working with kids with special needs and like just seeing different pathologies and volunteering with doctors where I was able to see this amazing career and recognize 那 在那里 is a need for people like me in this field. And really try to get my finger on the pulse of what their job was like and what they were saying and I just kind of one thing led 我无法想象自己还能做别的事. 和 this 一天, I I could 不 imagine 我自己 doing anything else. 什么都没有 better than this for me. Either it's a PhD or an MD. 所以 I knew of PhD 学校 and my friends at the time where you're older than me, they had all applied and got in to phc 学校 so I was like, yeah, why 不? 就像 I was kind of more naive about it. I talked to some faculty and they were like you, 你知道, this like this is really, this can be really grueling and I was like, oh, I'll see what happens. 所以 when I got in and then, 你知道, first year comes second year, comes I go, I can do one more year. Not to be fascinated by like the human body has and just like, yeah, all this stuff. There's so many different Avenues too. Pursuing this career was like, here's yeah, 我认为 那's a 伟大的 segue into our next topic, which is our 导师 like where did we find them who they are, why they're so 重要的 and what we look for in them because it's absolutely 重要的 especially as people who may 不 have had other people doing what we 想要 to do in our upbringing, 你知道, we definitely have to seek 导师, I 是这样认为的. Do you 想要 to get into 那 正确的 now? I can definitely start when I 寻找导师. 更多的是. Someone who was 要么 on the same. 跟踪, me or was able to listen to me. 我认为 那 is, 你知道, something 那 was very 重要的 to me was 那 they were able to take the time. Were the pre-health director at my 学校? 和我的 undergrad al道路s was so helpful to me and I definitely 想要ed to see me succeed and al道路s took the extra time to meet with me if I had questions and 那 was 伟大的. But a不her mentor of mine was my organic chemistry. 教授 大学. Still probably the best Professor I've ever had. 这是另一个 lesson in, why you should advocate for yourself because the 道路 那 I got to 知道 her Was, she would have these office hours throughout the week and one of her office hours was at like, 8:00 or 8:30 in the morning. 所以我会站起来 我会说. 所以metimes I would be the only person who went because it was so early, and everyone's 在大学 and doesn't get up till later usually, but I got out of bed and I would, I would go. Not everyone has rooted for me. Totally and 我喜欢 那 you mentioned. It's like, it's a kind of like a two-道路 relationship. You 知道, as a mentee you have to put in effort as 好吧. 我真的很幸运. It was very interesting how 那 happened, so I took a picture and I sent it to my friend was like is this her sister? And she said, yeah, totally like 向她伸出援手. I wasn't able to I hear her speak because I had to leave early for work, but I did 向她伸出援手 and she was so receptive and so 她热情好客，还是个双证医生. 她做耳鼻喉科 and plastic surgery just seeing a woman being able to do 那 was just really 对我的启发. I was able to really just see like what a career in 医学 could look like and you really can't have it all and we're going to get into work 生活 balance later because, 你知道, 在那里's Different opinions on this. And then, once he saw, I was serious about it, he was 100% supportive. I mean, he was al道路s supportive, but he 想要ed to make sure 那 my head was in the 正确的 place, but I was doing it for the 正确的 reasons. So really grateful for him, we're still friends to this 一天. 他和他的妻子都是了不起的人，非常慈善，他也 helped me 很多 我的申请. He read my personal statement many times and helped me recognize my strength. It worked out 好吧 for 从长远来看. Your friend is very daunting to reaching out to someone.
