State Licensing Requirements

Many of Upstate Medical University’s academic programs lead to licensure or certification, and they are developed by faculty to meet New York State’s requirements that individuals must meet to obtain licensure or certification in New York. Other states often have different requirements, so if your goal is to practice in another state, this information will help you check to see what that state requires

You can find requirements for licensure for all states through the following links. Upstate Medical University provides this disclosure information related to the educational requirements for professional licensure per U.S. Federal Regulations, 668.43 (2019 Rule) and in compliance with the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA) Manual version 19.2

Please review the requirement for licensure in your chosen discipline in the state(s) in which you hope to practice. Upstate Medical University cannot provide verification of an individual’s ability to meet licensure or certification requirements unrelated to its educational programming. Such individual determinations are made by state licensing boards.

These disclosures do not provide any guarantee that any particular state licensure or certification entity will approve or deny your application. Furthermore, this disclosure does not account for changes in state law or regulation that may affect your application for licensure and occur after these disclosures are made. Enrolled and prospective students are strongly encouraged to contact their State’s licensure entity using the links provided to review all licensure requirements imposed by their state(s) of choice.

This does not apply to programs that do not require professional licensure (e.g., degree programs in the College of Graduate Studies).
